BHP Softball Ends Their Season with a Big Win!

After shaking off a tough loss in the earlier game of a doubleheader, BHP’s co-ed softball team, the Bloody Hellhounds of Pain, closed out the Spring 2007 season with a 17-5 thrashing of division rival, the Spectacles, at Moscone Field in San Francisco. The game was an all-around team effort, highlighted by gems both in the field and from the batter’s box.

Instrumental in the victory was the pitching of Robert “Owen” Oca, who pitched a complete game—coasting most of the way. The only serious threat came in the bottom of the fourth when the Spectacles loaded the bases with no outs. However, taking this challenge in stride, Owen calmly struck out the next batter and then got the next to ground into an inning-ending double play. Speaking of double plays, the recent parade of them continued with two turned in the game, both involving shortstop Brian Buddell—one on a lightning fast 6-4-3 play initiated by Carp after he speared a shot down the third base line and another in which Buddell grabbed a grounder hit to him, hustled over to touch second and then relayed a slightly low throw to first baseman Sabrina Armstrong who dug it out to retire the side.

From the batter’s box, Erin “Carp” Carpenter displayed his usual devastating power crushing three extra-base hits, including one home run. Not to be outdone, Sabrina went 4-for-5 from the plate, including a triple and home run. Following the game, the crew headed to their favorite post-game haunt to celebrate the win and to toast a fine season. After the mid-year break, the Hellhounds will return to the diamond to begin the Summer 2007 campaign in late-July.

Go Hellhounds!
